If you’ve watched or followed Death Note, you know how huge success it was in terms of both anime & manga. It set records with its massive reception and won a series of awards.
So there’s a good news for us as Viz Media (Death Note’s North America distributor) has officially announced that Death Note will be returning with a collection of short stories by their original writer Tsugami Ohba & Takeshi Obata.
The series will be a collection of one-off manga shorts covering the aftermath of Light Yagami’s deadly attempt to change the world.
Right now, the series is scheduled to be released sometime in the summer of 2022.
The supernatural thriller series ran in Weekly Shonen Jump manga magazine from 2003 – 2006 and was then successfully adapted into an anime series by animation studio Madhouse in 2009.
It had such a powerful impact on teenagers that schools across several countries had to band the series since kids were taking it serious and making their own Death Notes. They used to write names of their classmates and teachers on which they wished ill upon.
Netflix also adapted the series into a movie in 2017, but it landed with negative reception. Still they are working on a sequel with Mortal Combat (2017) writer Greg Russo.
Isn’t it great that we are getting the next part from the original creators now.
