With two mind-blowing back to back races to kickstart the season of 2022 in Bahrain which saw an epic nail-biting battle between reigning World Champion Max Verstappen in his Red Bull and the Monégasque Charles Leclerc in his rejuvenated Ferrari. We got a replay of the wheel to wheel battle again in Jeddah with the same two drivers with a plethora of mind games amidst them and the strategy teams too!

The 8-time Constructor’s champions, Mercedes have had a, let’s say, not so promising start to the season yet. Although in the season opener held in Bahrain, the 7-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton was lucky to have a wildcard entry onto the third step of the podium with the W13 Silver Arrow, who are yet to find pace this season!

And let us not forget the homeboy Daniel Ricciardo who is about to race in front of his home crowd as F1 did not race in Australia for the years 2020 and 2021.

The Driver’s World Championship 2022 is momentarily led by the Monégasque Charles Leclerc at P1 (45 points) followed by his fellow team-mate Carlos Sainz from Spain at P2 (33 points), with the defending Belgian-Dutch World Champion Max Verstappen on P3 (25 points). The driver’s championship and the Constructor’s battle have already heated up as Ferrari’s and Ferrari powered cars have shown promising pace this season so far.

The battle for Constructor’s World Championship 2022 is going to be fought among the gladiators who would push to the limits. The current points table looks like, Ferrari (78 points) leading the leaderboard followed by Mercedes (38 points) and Red Bull (37 points) to complete the top 3.

For the third race of the 2022 season, Formula 1 is now headed to Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia posts its race debacle amid the COVID-19 pandemic in the year 2020. Australian Grand Prix, which is held in Melbourne has been the season opener since its addition to the Formula 1 racing calendar in 1996 till 2019 with the exception of the year 2010 when it was pinned as the third race of the calendar due to the Commonwealth Games that were due to take place in the city. And again this year it emerges as the third race on the Formula 1 calendar.

The last race was held in 2019 and Valtteri Bottas took his Silver Arrow onto the top step of the podium in the nail-biting season opener. And today we kickstarted the 2022 Australian Grand Prix with enthusiastic fans in full spirits. The first free practice session, Free Practise (FP1) was eventful with Sebastian Vettel stopping on the track due to an engine failure. The session saw mixed reactions from the paddock with Ferrari’s being the fastest of the lot (Carlos, P1 & Charles P2) followed by the Sergio Perez in his Red Bull.

The second free practice session, Free Practice (FP2) also saw the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc take the tabletop followed by Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz. With the consistent performances in FP1 & FP2, Ferrari would be hoping to have a front-row lockout for Sunday’s race.

The defending Constructor’s champions, Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team are yet to fire their power as visible so far in both the successfully concluded free practice sessions.

This sport apart from giving you pure adrenaline also gives you laughs in the form of comic posts. There are a lot of artists and comic writers and also illustrators who write and publish comics related to the Formula 1 world which makes the content accessible to all age groups. Remember the DRS dogfight between Charles and Max in the Saudi Arabian GP a couple of weeks ago, here is how a comic artist named @lollipopmancomics recreated the battle through one of his comics that the artist published after the race.

Max and Race Leader Charles at Safety Car Restart in Jeddah 2022

Apparently, Max does have a knack for trying to keep the leader on his toes and he is right behind the race leader forcing the lead driver to make an error. And in Formula 1, races are won or lost with a margin as small as one-hundredth of a second (0.01 s) and as close to as a 1 point victory in the Driver’s Championship.

The artist also came up with the comic depicting the news of the updated Aussie track with 4 DRS (Drag Reductions System) zones instead of the old setup which had only 3 DRS zones. Whenever two cars pass through a DRS detection zone, the car behind if within a 1-second gap of the car in front has the advantage of the DRS zone detection.

It basically lets the rear wing of the car with DRS enabled, open, to give the drivers an extra pace of 12-17 Kmph and pass the car in front using the extra pace. At the end of the DRS zone, the rear wing closes and either the overtake has been made or someone defended like a lion!

Holding onto anticipation of how the third race of the F1 2022 calendar turns out here in Australia, one thing is certain the battle is going to be gripping and drivers will push their elbows out in the run till turn 1 on the upcoming Sunday morning race.

Keeping you hooked on to the edge of your seats, we shall come back with more in this series after Sunday’s race. And here is the time schedule for Sunday’s race as per different time zones.

The time schedule for different timezones for Australian GP for FP1, FP2, FP3 & Race day.
